How Laser Hair Removal Works?

We use Lynton’s Deka Motus AY, which is the world’s first and only ‘pain-free’ LASER hair removal platform that uses both Alexandrite a gold standard in LASER hair removal and safe for all phototypes; and Nd:YAG, which makes it safe and effective for use on all phototypes (colour of the skin according to the Fitzpatrick Scale) and skin types and most hair types.

Prior to commencing your LASER hair treatment at VSP, a Consultation is required in which we will conduct a Patch Test upon an assessment of your skin and hair.

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses the LASER to reduce unwanted hair.
The hair growth cycle has three stages: the Anagen is the active growth stage, the Catagen is the resting stage and Telogen is where the hair falls out. The most successful time to treat is during the Anagen stage. The melanin (pigment) in the hair absorbs the light and produces heat. The heat disables the hair follicle in such a way to inhibit growth. The hair in the active stage will naturally fall out between 1-3 weeks.
The sensation during treatment will vary according to the mode of treatment selected. Single shots will often feel like a ‘flick of an elastic band’ on the skin, the sensation is minimized by the simultaneous application of cooling air. In the pain free modes oil is applied and the hand-piece is rubbed over a section of the skin at a time, with an inbuilt cooling system. Most Clients find the sensation tolerable.
The skin may be red and warm immediately after treatment, the hair follicles may be swollen and raised but this usually subsides within a few hours.
Clients typically need the following amount of Treatments:
- For face area 12 + treatments
- For bikini/under arms 6 + treatments
- Other body areas 8 + treatments
- And then, maintenance once every 6-12 months.
However, after your Consultation, where we assess your skin colour, hair and health, we will be able to better advise you on the number of sessions you might need and at what intervals.
We recommend having top-up treatments at set intervals to maintain your results. This will be discussed at Consultation.
We always recommend for our LASER clients to purchase prescription strength SPF to reduce the risk of skin damage and pigmentation.
